A New Bat

Howard Dean is stumping for Kerry and asking for money. (The guy on the bat graphic has a cute Kerry logo on his shirt.) He still knows how to make an appeal:

Blog for America: A Message from Governor Dean
Dear Friend,

George Bush has failed our country. And our top priority between now and November must be making absolutely certain that the American people hold him accountable.

This administration will say anything to avoid responsibility for the massive mistakes it has made. But John Kerry is our candidate, and he will not let them hide -- and you can help by supporting his campaign now:

George Bush cannot be trusted to tell the truth. He misled us about Iraq and his administration's paranoid secrecy cuts the public off from information about our government's actions. He would not testify under oath to the September 11th commission -- and could not even meet it in private without Dick Cheney's supervision.

He cannot be trusted with our safety. George Bush has thrown away 60 years of America's moral leadership in the world and left us in weak isolation. He has stretched our military dangerously thin by rushing into Iraq, and by sending National Guard and Reserve troops to join them, left our homeland unprotected.

And George Bush simply cannot be trusted with our future. The millions of jobs lost have weakened our economy. Tens of millions of uninsured have weakened our health. And his attempts to divide us by race, gender and sexual orientation are weakening the fabric of our society.

The first step to making America strong again is electing John Kerry. We're putting up the bat to get George Bush out of office and help Senator Kerry take his message to the American people:

We had a spirited primary season this year. But differences between Democrats are nothing compared [to] the fundamental difference between our agenda and that of the right-wing ideologues who are destroying this country.

Our campaign was based on the idea that the power to change this country is in the hands of the American people. Right now, we must come together not only as Democrats, but as Americans, to support the campaign to beat George W. Bush.

Thank you for your support.

Governor Howard Dean M.D.
They're shooting for $500,000 in one day (and have so far reached $78,632).

If you read the comments on the BFA thread, many many people are not going to help them reach the goal - "He'll have to be satisfied with my vote" is a common sentiment.

To this I have three responses - 1) Yes, I know it sucks, but 2) Get over it (Dean says so!), and 3) Then again, I haven't given Kerry money yet either, so who am I to talk?

It was a great note from Howard. Strongly and firmly worded. I actually doublechecked to see that the mail I got was coming from the Kerry campaign and not from DFA.

And, as V knows, given the recent torture revelations, I have been seriously contemplating a significant donation to the Kerry campaign. I simply cannot abide the thought of another 4 years of Bush.

And I suppose that today is the day to do it if I'm going to so that Dean gets the 'credit.' But, I'm on the road, for one thing, and I just don't know if I'm ready yet. Although, that is sounding hollow even to me, lately, so I dunno...

I sent Kerry $100 last week.

It's imperative that he win this election.
