Just a friendly wager, Mr. President
I'm not 100% sold on this, but at first blush it seems like a smart idea.
TNR Online: &c.: A KERRY PR COUP EVEN BIGGER THAN EDWARDS
...Why not challenge Bush to a target-shooting competition? We know Kerry's generally a pretty good athlete, and it sounds like he's a pretty good shot in particular.
Bush, from what I know about his Yale days, isn't the most gifted athlete on the planet. It seems pretty likely that Kerry would win.
And, even if he didn't, just holding his own with Bush on the same shooting range (or whatever the hell it's called) would be a political victory in itself. He'd clearly benefit from the same expectations dynamic that allowed Bush to claim victory in the 2000 presidential debates (Kerry's Vietnam heroism notwithstanding).
And Bush would pretty much have to accept the challenge. For Bush to decline would be an even bigger PR defeat than being out-shot by Kerry.
[Breaks added for readability... Paragraphs, Mr. Scheiber!]
Agree? Disagree?
It's not like the Vacation President could say he's "too busy" without looking awfully ...
chicken.
